March 2016Once anyone has gotten a good taste of the Gospel as preached by Christ, the immediate conclusion is that it is only "Good News" to the criminal class. That the judge should abandon justice, should be in cohoots with the crooks, is terrible news to the righteous, to the contributing members of society. But for the scum of the earth it is unfathomably Good News, which is probably why I like it so much.
It is true that the basic points of Christianity are contrary to human reason. The Trinity, the Virgin Birth, Christ's sacrificial death, cleansing through repentance and faith, the Gift of the the Spirit - none of the finest minds in the entire history of philosophy could have dreamed of anything like it. They can't be proved scientifically either (or disproved ). The wisdom of God is foolishness with man, as the Bible says. But there is a SECONDARY place for reason. For example, if I say "Christ says I should do this, so I had better do it," that is reason.
Or, if I say "The Bible says God created the animals and humans in a certain way, so I do not believe in Darwinism because it contradicts the Bible," that too is reason. And reason can find other reasons to reject Darwinism.
But I do think too many Christians rely on appeals to reason, when the real problem and cause of unbelief is sin and rebellion in the heart.
I absolutely agree Joe. Thank you so much for the comment. With all that is wrong with this post, both technically as I was still a bit of a novice writer back then, as well as the obvious problems of throwing bombs at your own team it is still one of my favorites and I hope very much that you enjoyed it as much as such an over the top full frontal assault can be enjoyed.
"Christianity has nothing to do with reason."
