If you haven't read Make America Small Again please read it for the context of this post series. So, for as long as we have been talking about the problems in our country, we have also been talking about how to fix them. A Constitutional Amendment or amendments is generally presented as a kill shot to the problem. But, my question is, what amendment or amendments would put America back on the right track? My plan is to have one of these threads once a week where I present two potential amendments, one that is sort of in the conventional stable of solutions and one that is a little more off the wall and potentially out of my own head. I will not attempt to present them in lawyerspeak or in a text that would actually be appropriate to the Constitution, I dont know how to weite that way anyhow. The purpose is to get other people’s opinion, to work through together what would be the pros and cons of any proposed solution. If you have the app, now for Istuff and Android the chat is open and we can try it out or just use the comments below.
Term Limits
The idea of limiting Federal power and corruption through term limits goes back a long way and is a perennial favorite. Living as we do in the age of American Mandaranism-AKA The Deep State, to be meaningful Term Limits must be placed not merely on congresscritters but on the real power centers of the government, which unfortunately are largely unknown to us. So, my proposal would be something like this- Each US citizen, not convicted of a felony, may hold senior government positions for up to12 years. He may divide it up however it works for him. 6 years as a senator, 4 as president, and 2 as a director of some agency would be one example. Another might be 3 years as a general, 2 as a civilian DOD executive, a few years in a senior White House role.
For today's less conventional proposal,
Ban on Undeclared Hostilities and Clandestine Activity
No agent or asset, of the US government, or a contractor thereof or an NGO which receives funding from the US government or a contractor thereof, or foreign powers acting at the direction of the United States may be dispatched to foreign soil without the informed consent of the government of that territory, except in the case that Congress has an active declaration of war on that country.
Let's hear what you think these changes might accomplish or how they might backfire.
