Make America Small Again
Reintegrating the Gospel with the Culture
The country of the People, by the People, and for the People has perished from this Earth. That seems extreme. I mean, you look around and Uncle Sam is allegedly the Only Remaining Superpower. Our economy, allegedly dwarfs its nearest rival. Our arsenal makes all the rest look like jokes. But it has all been hollowed out. It is a sad thing that the Watermelons(my dad’s term, Green on the Outside Red on the Inside) have completed their Long March through the Institutions, that our Educational System, Legal System, Medical System have all been corrupted and turned into weapons against the people.
It is sad. But surprisingly it is not terrifying or dystopian like we always thought it would be. Because as those Systems became more corrupt they lost the vigor, the energy, the initiative that made this country great and also made the Leftists want to infiltrate them to begin with. They are a parasite but they are truly terrible at parasitism. They conquer but their conquest necessarily makes the conquered land not worth conquering. They are less than conquerors. They are a mere barbarian horde sacking Rome. The Clintons and Obamas are mere Ostrogoths and once the City on the Hill is destroyed all they can do is go to their mud huts and sit in the dark, they can’t build anything new. When the last Jefferson or Lincoln is torn down, the statues they build won’t be George Floyd, they will be shapeless, shameful Baals and Ashtoreths. They will be gods whose only claim to worship is that they came from the hands of the Revolution.
So it isn’t so hard to paint the problem. Where we fail is that we don’t see the problem with our solutions. MAGA and America First and all of the attempts to energize the American people to reclaim their nation will fail. Because they only deal with symptoms and not root causes. Outlawing abortion, as an example, is a fine idea. But if we are still a nation of people who want to destroy children for convenience the gain is marginal and very temporary. I very firmly believe that the Men in Skirts should be driven from this land or this life, in any case we cannot connive at their perversion and corruption of the young men and women of our home. But, why are they here in the first place? Giving control of the nation’s finances to Ron Paul would fix a lot of our problems, at least in theory. The reality is that the forces that wrecked them once would wreck them again. But why?
All of the solutions that I see being proposed, or that occur to me, are based in Law. They are all based on the idea that doing things right will lead to blessing and doing them wrong has led to where we are now, let’s just call it damnation for short. Mr. Trump is a good example of this apparent failure. He attempted to reclaim America for the American public, to close the border, he appointed originalist judges who wound up striking down Roe, he made changes to make our military capable and respected. And now, sitting at the end of 2022 we can only say that we are worse off than when he began. But why? All of these attempts to fix America, at best, fail in the way that Donald Trump has failed. They fail to change the behavior of the American people and the American government. But they succeed wonderfully in exposing our sin and our shame. They fail at accomplishing what we want them to accomplish but succeed wonderfully in accomplishing the purpose for which they were actually made.
Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Romans 3:20
All attempts to fix our societal problems by ‘Blessed is the one who does right’ and ‘Cursed is the one who does wrong’ fail on this rock because this was never meant to secure blessings for us, but only to reveal our misery and failure. We claim to know this but then we expect legal solutions to lead to national morality. But only grace does that.
The real question is, how do we apply the truths of the Gospel to our current problems?
I’ve sorta come up with a framework that I call Make America Small Again. The idea is that American Greatness is the enemy of American Freedom. As long as the rewards for corrupting and capturing American leaders and institutions are astronomical even men and institutions with integrity will be under constant unrelenting pressure to give up their integrity. I think that the New Testament teaches, in several ways and several places, a solution to that problem, take away the incentive to capture our nation.
Let’s unwind our reserve currency status. As long as we retain the ability to sell people moonbeam dollars for actual goods, the greedy of this world will never stop trying to capture that power. The Federal Reserve is literally based on the idea of continuously ‘building bigger barns’.
Let’s replace the awesome force projection capabilities with citizen soldiers, I think that every American man should be trained in combat and tactics and the use of military grade equipment, anti-armor and anti-aircraft personnel weaponry and that these should be available to him at the local armory. A nuclear arsenal is one deterrent, but a well-armed, well-trained citizenry would make conquering our country unthinkable, to enemies foreign and domestic. Unilateral disarmament is based on John’s First Epistle, the principle of an antithesis between love and fear brought out in the third and fourth chapters.
Let’s get rid of the entitlements, even the ones that we have paid for for our working lives and hope to collect, or are collecting. Then the incentive to cross our border only remains for men who want to work and take care of their families. And those who want to live a quiet life, work with their hands, and mind their own business(to use Paul’s words I think First Thessalonians but I’m not looking it up) are immigrants that we can use.
We are under attack by an enemy that can only be defeated by the Lord’s Return. Let’s face that fact. And let’s pray. And let’s not set out a feast for the prowling lions. Make them work for their dinner and maybe we can make honest men out of them yet. Bottom line though is that we need to Repent, which is to say ReThink, have a New Mind, with some New Thoughts about these old problems. Lemme know what you think.
